About Collinsville Historical Museum

The Collinsville Historical Museum is a one-of-a-kind repository for unique historical artifacts from 1767 through the present.  The displays appeal to all ages -- a real treasure for our community and the surrounding area.

The best part?  IT'S FREE!  There is no charge to visit the Museum during its normal business hours!

Archive collections including military documents and journals dating from the Civil War to present are available to see.  There are World War II oral histories, guest speaker presentations on audio tape, 19th century photos and rare, handwritten records, maps, journals and more!

The museum has in its possission over 12,000 artifacts of which about one fourth are displayed at any one time. The undisplayed artifacts are stored and catalogued in a large storage room on the lower level. Some of the items from the display cases are rotated on a regular basis so visitors will enjoy new items upon each visit. Newly donated artifacts are also put into displays.

Seasonal artifacts (Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, Christmas etc...) are on display during those special months. As displays are dismantled, they are placed into storage boxes, properly catalogued and stored in our storage room for future reference.

The historic artifacts are housed in a ultra modern two story building dedicated in 2007 with the state of the art museum qualities, including proper heating, cooling, and humidity to protect the artifacts. The building is completely handicapped accessible including an elevator to take visitors to each of the two large floors of displays.

Special museum quality lighting protects the artifacts from ultraviolet light. Important documents and photographs are framed using acid free backing and glass that filters the ultraviolet light.

The artifacts are displayed and grouped by topic to enhance the visitor's enjoyment and knowledge. Maps are provided to guide the visitor to the area of their interest.... On-duty museum guides also are available to assist the visitor.

We also offer assistance with research inquiries as well as help with schools, civic groups, and other organizations that would like to tour our facility.
